I.About Xinjiang University
Founded in 1924 (formerly Xinjiang Russian Law and Political Specialized School), Xinjiang University is a comprehensive research-oriented university with a long history and profound cultural heritage. It is one of the first national key universities under Project 211, among the first 42 Double First-Class universities in China, and a university co-built by the Ministry of Education and the People’s Government of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
The university is an authorized institution for the China Scholarship Council (CSC) public study abroad programs, a member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) University, and a host institution for the Chinese Government Scholarship, Confucius Institute Scholarship, and Xinjiang Government Scholarship programs.
Xinjiang University offers 13 discipline categories: Philosophy, Economics, Law, Education, Literature, History, Science, Engineering, Agriculture, Medicine, Management, Art, and Interdisciplinary Studies.Ten disciplines rank in the global top 1% of ESI: Chemistry, Engineering, Materials Science, Environment and Ecology, Geosciences, Computer Science and Technology, General Social Sciences, Mathematics, Agricultural Science, and Botany and Zoology.
II.Self-financed International Student Programs
To meet the diverse needs of international students, Xinjiang University enrolls self-financed international students globally and provides multi-level and multi-type programs:
1.Non-degree Programs
i.One-Semester Chinese Language Program:
Chinese language and Chinese culture courses at various levels are provided to improve comprehensive Chinese proficiency. Intake: March or September annually.
ii.One-Academic-year Chinese Language Program:
Chinese language and Chinese culture courses at various levels are provided to improve comprehensive Chinese proficiency. Intake: September annually.
2.Degree Programs
(Chinese-taught: Bachelor’s, Master’s, Doctoral;
English-taught: Master’s, Doctoral)
Bachelor’s programs: 4 years
Master’s programs: 2–3 years
Doctoral programs: 3–4 years
III. Admission Requirements
1. Non-Chinese citizens holding a valid ordinary foreign passport, in compliance with the Nationality Law of the People’s Republic of China.
Age: 18–45 years old. High school graduation or above. Healthy, well-behaved, friendly to China, with no criminal record.
2.Academic Requirements
Non-degree programs: Junior high school graduation or above.
Bachelor’s programs: High school graduation or above.
Master’s programs: Bachelor’s degree or above.
Doctoral programs: Master’s degree or above.
3.Language Proficiency
Chinese-taught Bachelor’s: HSK 4 (score ≥ 180)
Chinese-taught Master’s & Doctoral: HSK 5 (score ≥ 180)
English-taught programs: IELTS Academic ≥ 6.0 or TOEFL iBT ≥ 80 (Native English speakers or those with English-taught degrees may apply for exemption)
Chinese language programs: No language requirement

Online Application: March 1st–May 15th, 2026
Qualification Review:May 15st–May 31st, 2026
Note: Including time for re-submission of rejected materials. Applications submitted after the deadline will not be accepted.
V. Application Procedures
1. All applicants need to complete the application through the Xinjiang University International Student Management Platform at http://xju.at0086.cn/StuApplication/Login.aspx. Register an account, complete personal information and upload required documents. The school of International Cultural Exchange of Xinjiang University is entitled not to check the application materials if applicants fail to do so.
2. Bachelor’s applicants Must take the “China's College Scholastic Ability Test for International Undergraduate Students (CSCA)” before application, with Chinese and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. Valid score report must be submitted. For details: https://www.csca.cn.
3. Master’s & Doctoral applicants: Log in to Xinjiang University official website https://www.xju.edu.cn/, select “Organizational Structure,” choose the relevant college under “Teaching and Research Institutions,” inquire about supervisor information, and obtain a pre-admission letter from the intended supervisor of their applied program.
4. Qualification Review: The university will conduct preliminary review. Incomplete or unqualified materials must be resubmitted within the review period.
5. Program Assessment: Upon passing qualification review, the school will conduct a second review and notify applicants of the program assessment.
6. Admission & Registration: The university will verify admission qualifications upon registration. Fraud, forgery or violation of regulations will result in cancellation of admission.
VI. Required Application Documents
All documents must be in Chinese or English. Documents in other languages must be attached with notarized Chinese/English translations.
1.Notarized copy of highest academic diploma. (Current students must provide a certificate of expected graduation or study certificate.)
2.Notarized copy of academic transcript.
3.Personal information page of valid passport.
4.Passport photo (white background, bareheaded).
5.Foreigner Physical Examination Form (valid for 6 months).
6.Original and notarized copy of Non-Criminal Record Certificate (valid for 6 months).
7.For applicants under 18 whose parents do not reside in China: Notarized certificate of guardian in China.
8.Language proficiency certificate:
Chinese-taught programs: HSK certificate (valid for 2 years).
English-taught programs: IELTS / TOEFL or English-taught proof.
One-Semester Chinese Language Program / One-Academic-year Chinese Language Program: No HSK required.
9.Two recommendation letters from associate professors or higher (for master’s & doctoral applicants).
10.Study and research plan (no less than 800 words, for master’s & doctoral applicants).
11.Financial support proof (required for self-financed students): Sponsor’s employment & income certificate, bank statement (no less than RMB 30,000 or equivalent foreign currency), etc.
VII. Majors for Application
A total of 22 colleges of our university recruit international students , most of which offer bachelor ' s , master ' s and doctoral degree programs taught in Chinese , and some offer master's and doctoral degree programs taught in English.

Note: Applicants with an HSK score of Level 4 or above will be given priority admission to Chinese-related undergraduate majors.
For master’s and doctoral programs taught in Chinese, an HSK score of Level 5 or above is required.
Professional master’s programs have been marked accordingly. Among them, Master of International Chinese Language Education (Professional) and Master of Tourism Management (Professional) are two-year programs. All unmarked programs are academic master’s programs. In addition, the Computer Science and Technology program taught in English is also a two-year program.

IX. Admission Time
Fall semester: September 1st–30th
Note: Degree students are admitted only in September.
X. Visa Application
Admitted applicants shall apply for a student visa at a Chinese Embassy or consulate with the Admission Notice and Visa Application for Study in China (JW201/202 Form).
Study period ≥ 6 months: Apply for X1 visa Convert to residence permit within 30 days after arrival.
Study period < 6 months: Apply for X2 visa
